Can Someone help me please, what do Women mean when they say "My Girlfriend?"

Can someone please comment on this for me? I have a friend of mine, whom up until now, I beleived was straight. One reason I thought she was straight was because I dated her and another reason being that she has a 20 year old son.

I noticed that when we were dating, she would always tell me that she and her "Girlfriend", was going clubbing and places, and she would always prefer to her as "My Girlfriend!"
Now I know that some woman refer to their female friends as my "Girlfriend or My Friendgirl. But that doesn't mean that they are Bi or Gay.

But my friend the one that I am making reference to (and I won't mention any names because someone may know her), went and got her hair cut and now she wears a short and blonde afro. Thats' okay, but she also wears baggy pants with big pockets, she says so she don't have to carry a purse. I know a lot of female wear pants and thats' okay.

But what really got me to start paying more attention to her use of the word "Girlfriend", was when she went and bought herself a pick-up truck. I mean before she bought the truck she was starting to look more like a dyke in her appearance and if anyone saw her that would be their first opinion.

Even if it's decided up front that it's cool to have an open relationship and bring people into it on the side or smack dab in the middle, is it worth it in the long run?
